Students follow a core programme of nine modules, supported by study groups and experiments in the electrical and computer laboratories. The modules are assessed by written examinations in the Summer term.
The first year group project establishes the basis of the engineering design process. Students begin by deconstructing a simple electronic toy and using a circuit simulation programme to understand how it works. Then, they propose and design some enhancements to the toy and try them in the circuit simulator. Finally, they build their chosen design and test it in competition with other groups.
Students take nine compulsory and two optional modules, which are assessed by written examination in the summer term.
The second year group projects are on ideas proposed by them. The projects lead to the solution of a current socio-economic problem by technical means.
OPTIONAL MODULES (SELECT TWO):
In the third year students start to design their degree programme to fit their interests and skills by selecting a range of advanced subjects from the Department.
BEng students will dedicate the nine-week summer term to their individual project.
